Romance is dead, but there is still a reason to celebrate
6 February 2010
With one in four 16-24 year olds being dumped by text message, without even the courtesy of a phone call, according to leading recycling website money4urmobile.com, it would seem that romance is dead or dying.
To mark this money4urmobile.com is launching its ‘We hate Valentine’s Day’ Facebook campaign, giving anyone who has been unceremoniously dumped the chance to tell their break-up story with the chance of winning a £200 prize.
The campaign is looking for Facebook users to join the ‘We Hate Valentine’s Day’ group and email break-up stories. The best ones will be posted anonymously (so now there is an opportunity to give all the details) and the top story will be awarded a £200 cash prize. The perfect antidote to the sickly sweet romance surrounding Valentine’s Day!
The research which was carried out to identify how the text messaging phenomenon has impacted on dating habits in the UK also uncovered some other interesting statistics. Almost a quarter of the (insert number) respondents have had flirty text messages with someone they work with, with males aged between 25 and 44 being the most likely to flirt with colleagues via text. It does also seem that text messages can cause trouble if send is hit too quickly, with almost 50 per cent of 16-24 year olds send messages to someone they did not mean to, with 25-34 year olds not far behind.
As part of its ‘We Hate Valentine’s Day’ campaign, money4urmobile.com has put together its survival tips for 14 February.
1. If possible try not to leave the house on 14 February. It is a Sunday this year, and lying on the sofa all day is allowed.
2. Ensure that terrestrial television remains switched off at all times and instead stockpile as many horror movies as you can carry from your local video store.
3. Avoid all restaurants, greetings card, confectionery and florist retailers.
4. Revel in the thought of all the money you have saved on a Valentine’s gift and think of how you can use that money to treat yourself instead.
5. Log on to money4urmobile.com’s ‘We hate Valentine’s Day’ Facebook page and share in the knowledge that you are not the only one who has had an awful breakup.
